The History of Art in 50 Paintings Illustrated Delphi Masters of Art Book 36 edition by Delphi Classics Peter Russell Arts Photography eBooks
What a interesting and fun book to read. I enjoyed it very much. The painting and the information presented was mostly perfect for me. However at times the authors would assume some of the artist's techniques or methods were "common knowledge" by readers, which in my case, they were not. All in all, this book was good and hopefully will continued to be offered to the public.Product details

The History of Art in 50 Paintings Illustrated Delphi Masters of Art Book 36 edition by Delphi Classics Peter Russell Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
Although 50 paintings are covered in this small tomb, and it contains details from the paintings -- all in full color -- the explanations of the pictures is lacking. No real background is covered in my opinion, such as, was this painting made during WWI, was the artist troubled with being drafted or had he moved to England to avoid the war, and whatnot. Some paintings are covered in more detail than the others.
The selection of the 50 paintings is somewhat questionable, especially as the paintings move into the era of modern art. Nonetheless, the book is quite readable and the paintings are presented with details that I found interesting.
In general it is not bad, but it can be improved. I have chosen this book by the images of the paintings, but the quality of the images is not very good. There is no biographical information on the artists.
This is a BRIEF but excellent introduction to the history of EUROPEAN art. The art works show up very well on my Fire HD. Descriptions on each work are a few pages long but give one a fair overview of the work in question. I was inspired to purchase this after taking one of introductory courses on art history from The Teaching Company. Thank you Delphi Classics.
Loved the explanations and backgrounds on each of the featured paintings and artists.
It is a good introduction to art history.
